The hoof rasp (file) course side is the scales. And thank you so very much for the comment. I did not think such a piece would attract such attention. So with the skill I now have I will forge another soon.

Really looks great :)

Don't forget to send pic's of the next one, should you really make another :)

great work on the head and the scales are awsome.
only the end of the tail looks a bit strange... less elaborate then the rest of it
Otherwise a really sweet beast :)

Ah, excelent! :+fav:

I truly envy smiths with working forges. I've had to make do with a welder and a gas hatchet for faaaar too long. :)

Go check out the ABANA website you might find some folks nearby that meet and can help you get started into smithing.

Oh, I've been on Anvilfire for a while, and I built my share of truck-wheel coal forges, but getting coal is a problem when you haven't any place to put a TON; and I even constructed a monstrous three-burner propane forge using the Riel Burner design, but I used firebrick instead of Kaowool. Big mistake. The Firebrick sucks up so much heat that I can't even get steel up to decent smithing temps, let alone welding heat. :(

Using an Oxy-Acytelene torch and the occasional trip to a heat-treating shop, for now, is simply more convenient for my purposes than building something else. But that doesn't mean I'm not envious. :D

Sounds like your looking and going in the right places, seems there should be a group of folks somewhere near by to meet with. Anyway the NC forges have been great for my purposes I have a five burner NC tunnel forge wich has a 6" by 6" opening and I can get a 30" heat it is a limited item that they don't advertise a whisper mama and a horseshoers forge and a makeshift handcrank coal forge with a centaur firepot. Coal costs bunches here so I use it where I need welding or good soaking heat. But propane forges have been just great for me so far.

This is really lovely. It has a very nice roughness and weight about it
